Do you find mysterious holes in your woolen clothes?
Fur beds are beetles whose larvae feed on products of animal origin. When fur beds enter our homes, they mainly attack woolen goods, furs and skins, but other textiles can also be exposed. An infestation of fur beds is not dangerous to humans but can be frustrating and can take time to overcome.

How do I detect fur beds?
Fur beds are all ovally oblong in shape, brown - or black in different shades and patterns and between 3-6 mm long. Depending on the temperature, it takes a little different time for a fur bed egg to hatch (and become a caterpillar), at 18 ° C it takes about 22 days and at 30 ° C after 6 days. The larval stage then lasts from 6 months up to 2-3 years, depending on living conditions and diet, before it becomes a full-grown beetle.
All fur bed species are good aviators and therefore spread easily indoors. The common fur bed lives outdoors throughout Sweden and can be entered via open windows and doors in summer. The other species, on the other hand, are introduced to the country and occur only indoors. In nature, their main task is to keep clean. They help break down hair products such as fur, down and feathers from dead animals in the wild. If you find empty caterpillar skins in closets and drawers, this can be a warning signal that you have fur beds at home.
